By Emily Boyd, Government Affairs Manager, Bend Chamber
After nearly a year of meetings, stakeholder engagement, and public input, Governor Tina Kotek's Oregon Prosperity Council has released its final recommendations aimed at strengthening Oregon's long-term economic competitiveness. The report identifies strategies to improve housing production, infrastructure, workforce development, innovation, permitting, tax policy and business climate as the state prepares for the 2027 legislative session.
The Bend Chamber has been actively engaged throughout the Council's process to ensure our business community had a voice in shaping these recommendations, from engaging with local stakeholders in roundtables with Chief Prosperity Officer Tim Knopp, to detailed and constructive feedback via the council’s survey.
Throughout the process, we emphasized the importance of addressing Oregon's housing shortage, investing in transportation and utility infrastructure, improving permitting predictability, supporting workforce development, maintaining a competitive tax and regulatory environment, reducing burdensome regulations and creating the conditions necessary for businesses of all sizes to invest and grow.
The Council's recommendations will help inform conversations leading into the 2027 legislative session. The Bend Chamber will continue reviewing the report, engaging with state leaders and regional partners and advocating for policies that reflect the needs of Central Oregon's business community as implementation discussions move forward.
