The Regional Business Alliance (www.regionalbusinessalliance.com) brought together community and business leaders on October 24, 2025, at Redmond City Hall for the first annual Central Oregon Economic and Policy Summit. More than 100 business leaders, state and local elected officials, and community members gathered to discuss the key issues shaping Central Oregon’s economic future.

A Strong Start to Regional Collaboration

The morning opened with remarks from leaders across the public and private sectors, including John Nielsen of the Redmond City Council and representatives from St. Charles Health System, Mid Oregon Credit Union, and Pacific Power.

State Senator Anthony Broadman shared insights from the Central Oregon Legislative Caucus, a bipartisan, bicameral group representing the tri-county region. Bend Mayor Melanie Kebler and Doug Riggs of NW Policy Advocates followed with an overview of local government policy priorities and the collaborative efforts of the Central Oregon Cities Organization (COCO).

Key Insights on Business and Workforce

Throughout the day, presenters explored the economic and workforce trends shaping Oregon’s future. Angela Wilhelms, President and CEO of Oregon Business & Industry, discussed the state of Oregon’s business climate, offering a candid assessment of competitiveness and the need for a stronger partnership with the business community. She emphasized balanced regulation, investment in economic development, and a renewed attitude of collaboration as essential to maintaining a thriving economy.

Heather Ficht, Executive Director of East Cascade Works, provided a look at the state of Central Oregon’s workforce, highlighting regional employment trends and emerging industry needs. She stressed the importance of aligning education, training, and policy to build an adaptable workforce prepared for future opportunities.

Regional Priorities and Next Steps

Participants engaged in roundtable discussions on economic development, housing, infrastructure, and transportation, and workforce development, identifying shared priorities and actionable next steps. A 2026 state-level policy discussion concluded the event, reaffirming the Alliance’s commitment to advocating for sustainable growth and a strong regional economy.

Looking ahead, the Alliance will develop a 2026 policy agenda in collaboration with members of the Central Oregon Legislative Caucus, expand engagement across the tri-county area including tribal partners, and strengthen communication with businesses on policy issues.
