Rimrock Trails Treatment Services has received the first $15,000 installment of a three-year, $45,000 grant from the Roundhouse Foundation. The funding supports the Rimrock Trails Client Financial Support Fund, which helps reduce financial barriers to behavioral health care for individuals and families throughout Central Oregon.

Founded 35 years ago, Rimrock Trails is a leading provider of professional counseling and substance use treatment services. The organization’s mission is to improve the lives of individuals struggling with mental health and substance use by providing timely access to compassionate and effective behavioral healthcare. Rimrock Trails establishes a foundation for healing, strengthens family connections, and offers hope for a brighter future. The organization operates outpatient clinics in Bend, Redmond, and Prineville, as well as an Adolescent Residential Program serving youth ages 12–17 in Prineville.

Client Financial Support Fund

For 35 years, Rimrock Trails has delivered comprehensive, evidence-based behavioral health services for individuals and families impacted by mental health and substance use challenges. In the last year alone, the organization provided more than 19,000 behavioral health services to individuals throughout Central Oregon.

The need for mental health and substance use treatment continues to grow. An estimated one in five adults and one in six youth experience mental illness, yet less than half receive the treatment they need. Barriers such as long waitlists, unreliable transportation, treatment costs, perceived cultural stigma, and limited insurance coverage contribute to this gap in care.

A substantial percentage of Rimrock Trails clients utilize Medicaid benefits. With proposed changes and potential reductions to Medicaid funding, the impact on client access to ongoing services remains uncertain. To help ensure that individuals can continue receiving life-changing care, Rimrock Trails established the Client Financial Support Fund. The demand for assistance consistently exceeds the resources available.

While many clients benefit from the Oregon Health Plan, those with private insurance or who self-pay often face significant financial obstacles, including high deductibles, limited coverage, and out-of-pocket fees. These challenges are especially acute in rural communities, where service options are often limited. The Client Financial Support Fund directly offsets treatment costs for individuals who are uninsured, underinsured, or unable to afford their share of fees due to gaps in coverage. By reducing or removing financial barriers, the fund enables clients to access and maintain consistent, high-quality behavioral health services.

Support from the Roundhouse Foundation

The Roundhouse Foundation, founded in 2002 by Kathy Deggendorfer in collaboration with her mother, Gert Boyle, has grown into a dynamic private family foundation dedicated to supporting programs that inspire creativity, strengthen community connections, and promote long-term sustainability in rural Oregon. Boyle, celebrated matriarch of Columbia Sportswear, emphasized hard work and collaboration as core values essential for both family and community success.

“One of Mom’s famous ‘Gertisms’ was, ‘It is better to give with a warm hand than a cold one,’” Deggendorfer said.

The Roundhouse Foundation’s three-year investment in Rimrock Trails reflects its commitment to fostering vibrant, healthy, and resilient rural communities throughout Oregon.
