Happy Trails Horse Rescue, a Bend-based nonprofit dedicated to equine welfare, is proud to announce that it has been awarded Accredited status by the Global Federation of Animal Sanctuaries (GFAS), the primary globally recognized organization providing standards for identifying legitimate animal sanctuaries.

GFAS accreditation is considered the gold standard in sanctuary operations and reflects the organization’s commitment to the highest standards of animal care, ethical practices, organizational transparency, and long-term sustainability. The accreditation process includes a rigorous review of operations and a comprehensive site evaluation.

Located in Bend, Happy Trails Horse Rescue works to protect horses from abuse, neglect, abandonment, and slaughter while also supporting horse owners throughout Central Oregon through its Surrender Prevention Program, which provides feed assistance, rehabilitation support, and temporary shelter when owners face difficult circumstances.

“We’re incredibly proud to achieve GFAS accreditation,” said Founder Dianne Scott. “The process challenged us to strengthen our systems and documentation while reaffirming our commitment to providing exceptional care for every horse and operating with transparency and professionalism.”

Happy Trails Horse Rescue also believes prevention through education and community support is key to reducing equine neglect and abandonment. Through outreach and partnerships across Central Oregon, the organization works to ensure horses and their owners have access to the resources they need to stay together whenever possible.

The organization also offers corporate sponsorship opportunities for local businesses interested in supporting equine welfare, rescue efforts, and community outreach programs.

To help the community learn more about the work being done at the rescue, Happy Trails will be hosting an Open Barn Day this June, offering an opportunity for the public to visit the ranch, meet the horses, and learn more about the organization’s mission. Community members are encouraged to watch Happy Trails’ website and social media channels for upcoming event details.

Happy Trails extends its gratitude to the volunteers, veterinarians, donors, and community members who make its mission possible.
