Mereté Hotel Management successfully launched its internal women's leadership program, LEAD (Lift, Empower, Advance, Develop), with a two-day retreat dedicated to empowering women in the hospitality industry to set higher goals for their careers. The event took place in early May at McMenamins Edgefield in Troutdale and featured Dr. Kristine Medyanik from Shattered Glass Leadership. This retreat was designed to inspire and equip female professionals with the skills and confidence to advance their careers in hospitality.

Despite making up 58% of the hospitality workforce, women remain underrepresented, with only 19% in C-suite executive roles across the sector, according to the AHLA Foundation's 2023 Women In Leadership Report. This disparity emphasizes the need for initiatives that not only recognize women's contributions but also provide them with the tools to ascend to leadership positions where their voices and perspectives are crucial to the industry's long-term success."Mereté sets a high standard in the industry by continuing to invest in our employees, especially those who are underrepresented," shared Liz Dahlager, Chief Operating Officer for Mereté Hotel Management. "We all benefit when we make space for talent to grow, and often women pass on opportunities due to other responsibilities, lack of encouragement or confidence. It is our job to provide that space, encouragement, and opportunity."

Mereté Hotel Management designed the LEAD program as a commitment to create opportunities for women within their company to grow and advance their leadership abilities and careers. Within Mereté Hotel Management, of the 114 managers and corporate staff, 69% are women, including Liz Dahlager, an award-winning advocate for women in leadership across the hospitality industry.

The Mereté LEAD program will continue to engage with their female-identifying employees to encourage their career paths to grow into more executive-level positions and aims to inspire other companies to invest in their employees.
