The Family Access Network (FAN) welcomes two new team members, Alex Fico and Shelby Cala. Fico joins the team as the Grants Coordinator, focusing on grant writing, board support, and donor database management. Cala joins as Outreach Coordinator, focusing on community building, marketing, and communications.

“As FAN’s impact in the Central Oregon Community grows, so too do our organization’s administrative needs,” says Julie Lyche, FAN Executive Director. “Alex and Shelby are committed to FAN’s mission of providing assistance, possibility and hope to Central Oregon families in need and we are thrilled to be able to welcome them to our team.”

With a bachelor’s degree in Communications from Virginia Tech and a background in non-profit and federal work, Alex brings a passion for supporting positive change in her community. She is excited to serve Central Oregon families and believes that children are at the center of building a more resilient and equitable future. In her free time, Alex enjoys backpacking, rockhounding, reading, and hanging out with her two cats.

Shelby joins the team with a Bachelor’s degree in Communications from the University of South Florida and has worked within the non-profit space and public sectors since 2012. She is excited to put to use her background in fundraising, event planning, and community outreach to serve FAN and the Central Oregon Community. Shelby enjoys spending time with her family – rockhounding, hiking, and exploring the PNW.

Unique to Central Oregon, FAN began in 1993 and currently employs 28 advocates at 66 sites in Deschutes, Crook, and Jefferson counties. These advocates work tirelessly to help families break the cycle of poverty. The direct placement of FAN advocates within schools allows FAN to effectively reach and connect children and families in need to essential resources to thrive.
