Water and Sewer Rate Recommendation Moves to 2008

The Water/Sewer Rate Advisory Committee has completed six two-hour meetings thus far in its work in developing a recommendation for a new conservation-based water/sewer rate system.  The work of the group has gotten bogged down in data anomalies making it more difficult to properly assess the information needed to pull together a new water/sewer rate system.  City staff and their consultant team have been analyzing information from the current rate structure and found they need more time to do a proper analysis.  The original goal of recommending a new rate structure to the City Council before year-end has been pushed into early 2008. In looking at 2006 billing information, the following is the breakdown by rate class: Commercial at 34.4%; Laundry at 0.1%; Residential at 61.6% and Schools at 3.9%. One other thing the data analysis is telling us is information about consumption. This has shown us Bend residents and businesses have been doing a good job of reducing their use of water over the past few years since metering went into effect. Keep up the good work.
