Cascade Lakes Highway
A self-guiding brochure titled, Cascade Lakes National Scenic Byway is available at the Bend Chamber. The Highway is typically closed due to snow from late October to Memorial Day.
Deschutes River Views
Ten miles west of Bend...The area offers a spectacular view of Dillon Falls, a scenic whitewater area, and a favorite stretch of river for whitewater rafters. Follow the Cascades Lakes Highway to Forest Service Road #41 (1st road beyond the The Seventh Mountain Resort); turn south and follow the signs to Dillon Falls and the Deschutes River.
McKenzie Pass & Dee Wright Memorial
Twenty-one miles northwest of Bend...(approx. 128 mile loop). Take U.S. Highway 20 to Sisters, stay left to Highway 242 to the summit of McKenzie Pass and the Dee Wright Memorial where a spectacular view of the Cascade panorama and lava flows can be seen. For those wishing to complete the loop, continue down Highway 242 to Proxy Falls and the McKenzie River. Turn right where you meet Highway 126 and view other waterfalls over the Santiam Pass. Closed during winter.
A Day on the Metolius
Thirty-five miles northwest of Bend....Take U.S. Highway 20 west from Bend through Sisters to Metolius Recreation area. Visit Metolius headwaters (Forest Road 14), feed the trout at Camp Sherman Bridge, proceed over Forest Road 14 to Wizard Falls Hatchery and on to Lower Bridge. Cross the Metolius River and return to U.S. Highway 20 over Forest Roads #1270 and #12.
