Cascade Business News Celebrates 15th Anniversary in 2009

The newspaper was founded in Bend in 1993 by CEO and Founder Pamela Hulse Andrews. “The economy in Central Oregon was just on the verge of taking off……there was another small business newspaper in town where I had briefly served as editor,” explained Hulse Andrews. “It was owned by Prineville’s Central Oregonian, but their vision did not seem to match the potential of the region’s burgeoning business community.”
So, Hulse Andrews launched Cascade Business News with great enthusiasm and tremendous support from a myriad of business leaders. “I had a vision to help enhance the local community and deliver business news in an upbeat and helpful format. From Madras, Prineville and Redmond to Bend, Sisters and La Pine and all points in between, I saw potential and optimism.”
Ten years ago the company formed Cascade Publications Inc. and became a family-owned business when Andrews’ son, Jeff Martin, joined the company. Together they have aggressively expanded the company to produce Cascade Arts & Entertainment, Cascades East, Prineville Magazine, and Cascade Discovery along with several annual publications.
“The absolute best part about celebrating this milestone for our company is that we have had the opportunity to live, work, and play in an amazing community,” adds Hulse Andrews. “The vendors we work with every day, the numerous employees who have contributed to our success, the writers and photographers, our advertisers and readers and the nonprofit organizations that we volunteer our time, ad space and finances to make it the best 15 years.”

Rock Art Perspectives: Pictographs and Petroglyphs opens at the High Desert Museum

The exhibition brings together archaeologists, photographers, and Native American artists who explore the beauty and significance of early Native American art carvings and paintings in the Columbia plateau, Great Basin and across America.
The sculpture, painting, photography, and archeological findings offer varying perspectives of this art form.
Rock art includes pictographs, which are drawings on stone using crushed berries, red ochre and other natural materials. Petroglyphs are images carved in stone.
Biographies of each contributing artist and archaeologist detail the effects rock art has had on their work.
The exhibit seeks to promote awareness about the historical and cultural significance of rock art, which can be found throughout the High Desert. It is created in partnership with the U.S. Bureau of Land Management, and addresses how to help conserve and protect these archeological sites.
The exhibit runs through May 31 and is sponsored by KBNW News Radio.
For more information go to www.highdesertmuseum.org.
