PostNet Offers Holiday Shipping Tips

Some people start their holiday shopping the day after Thanksgiving, while others wait until the last minute. Whatever the shopping method, packages still have to be shipped to family and friends across the country during the busiest shipping time of the year.
To make the holiday season as worry-free as possible, PostNet offers the following tips for shipping packages:
     1. Have your packages packed properly to ensure the safety of their contents.
     2. For the best value, plan ahead. Ground shipping is the least expensive option, and for delivery by Christmas, plan on shipping packages within the continental U.S. by Dec. 15.
     3. If you’re shipping plants or fresh fruits and vegetables, be sure you know the rules before you buy. Information on what items can be shipped and where, can be found on the Department of Agriculture’s Web site (www.usda.gov).
     4. Have packages sent to the office.
     5. Ask for tracking numbers.

Local Allstate Agent says Mind Your Ride

It is a smart idea to take a motorcycle education course to help ensure a safe riding experience for you and your passengers. It also helps you to learn to anticipate the unexpected and find out about the primary risk factors for your type of bike.
“Motorcycle courses will teach you the safety factors,” advises Allstate Agent Paul Tornay. “They will also show you how to operate your machine safely and how to anticipate unforeseen hazards.”
Not only will you be safer, you will save some money, too. Completing a safety course certified by the Motorcycle Safety Foundation (MSF), may make you eligible for a safety course discount of 5 percent.
With new motorcycles costing anywhere from $7,000 to $20,000, it’s wise to protect your investment. And motorcycle insurance isn’t as expensive as you might think. The average annual premium in Oregon is $350.
For more information on Allstate’s Motorcycle Insurance policy, contact Paul Tornay at 541-388-2136 or stop by 560 NE Greenwood Avenue for a personalized quote.

CBS is coming to Central Oregon

KBNZ TELEVISION, the new CBS Television station for the Central Oregon market, is set to launch.
New Vision Television, LLC, Owner of KOIN-TV in Portland Oregon is set to launch KBNZ-TV. New Vision, owner of 16 television stations located in Birmingham Alabama, Mason City Iowa, Youngstown Ohio, Topeka Kansas, Wichita Kansas, Honolulu Hawaii, Savannah Georgia and Portland Oregon, is very excited to launch KBNZ in Bend for the Central Oregon market.
Over the next several months, KBNZ-TV will be introduced to the Central Oregon communities and at the same time will continue to provide the Portland news from KOIN-TV. Daily on KOIN –TV News, KBNZ-TV will report 3-5 local stories within KOIN-TV newscasts. As KBNZ-TV grows, it will offer local newscasts from Central Oregon. One of the main concerns KBNZ learned from focus studies conducted in the Central Oregon Market is the potential loss of Portland KOIN-TV Channel 6 news. With KBNZ-TV and KOIN-TV owned and operated by the same company, the station listened to the viewing public and intend to always continue with the integration of KOIN-TV news out of Portland within our KBNZ-TV Channel 6 broadcast.
As stated by Steve Spendlove, Executive Vice President of New Vision Television and KBNZ-TV, “Localism is incredibly important to broadcasting and television. We do not feel Central Oregon was being served by airing KOIN-TV in its entirety.
We would like to invite you in joining with us and the local staff at KBNZ-TV where you will find us available on Cable channel 6 and High Definition on channel 606. We all look forward to growing with the Central Oregon Community.

Local Team Helps Builders Be Green

The surging interest in sustainable building and energy-efficient homes is encouraging many builders to go green. But the latest green product choices, installation requirements, and green certification criteria can be overwhelming. Higher standards for green building, in the form of national accreditations, are also coming. For builders striving to capture a portion of the growing green market, the process in building a wholly green house can be daunting.
Enter the Bend Green Team, a group of four Bend-based subcontractors ready to help builders with green residential and commercial projects. The team, made up of four members including Atlas Smart Homes and Home Storage Solutions, strives to be a builder’s primary source for green products, services and information.
Each team member offers sustainable, environmentally-friendly products. Atlas Smart Homes provides precise lighting and HVAC controls to reduce energy consumption. Home Storage Solutions keeps home air quality healthier with no-formaldyhe closets.
Bend Green Team is passionate about moving builders towards more environmentally-sound building practices. “We’re happy to share everything we know, whether a builder uses us or not,” asserts Jim Kone of Home Storage Solutions.

Ship ‘Green’ This Holiday Season

Between the Styrofoam packing peanuts, cardboard boxes and jet fuel, shipping your holiday gifts may seem like a pretty environmentally unfriendly process.
But PostNet, located at 1288 SW Simpson Ave. in Bend, can help you stay “green,” while still getting your gifts there on time and in once piece.
“We’re always on the lookout for ways to be a little bit more environmentally friendly,” said Jim Kane, owner of PostNet. “For instance, our customers love that they can bring in their used packing peanuts, and we’ll re-use them. No one wants to just throw them out, but they don’t want them in their house, either!”
Other “green” shipping tips from PostNet:
     • Be sure to send your gifts early.
     • Use the smallest box that fits your needs.
     • Use recycled or biodegradable packing peanuts.

Season Of Suppers®, “A Pet Food Drive For Pets In Need” Aims to Help More Seniors And Their Pets Fight Hunger

For some seniors, getting around easily is not an option. Often, their best friend and only companion is a loving dog or cat. The Season of Suppers campaign, now in its third year, calls attention to the importance of Pets to the well-being of homebound seniors. Helping keep these companion Pets well fed, healthy and part of the family for as long as possible became the motivating factor behind the partnership among Banfield, The Pet Hospital, the Banfield Charitable Trust (BCT) and Meals On Wheels Association of America (MOWAA).
Last year, Banfield’s Season of Suppers campaign raised more than $51,000 to help 50 senior meal programs start or augment Pet feeding programs across the country.
Banfield’s 2008 Season of Suppers campaign takes place throughout Banfield’s more than 730 Pet hospitals across the country, beginning Nov. 1, 2008, and continues through the end of the year. Supporters can drop off Pet food or make monetary donations at any local Banfield.

Talk of the Town Election Reflection

Did it serve the electorate? “Post Election Reflection” is the topic of the next Talk of the Town on COTV-11. “Did the election season wear you out?” asks moderator Dave Jones. “We want to discuss the length of the campaign, the tenor, the advertising, media and more. Among others, we’ve invited all area candidates hoping to weigh in on the process and find out their real thoughts on what’s working, what’s not, and what should change.”
Talk of the Town airs Mondays at 7 p.m. on BendBroadband COTV channel 11 and on COTV on Demand on Digital Cable.
