Cascades Theatrical Company Update

The Cascades Theatrical Company (CTC) started out in 1978 when a group of local theater buffs determined that this community was lacking any regular live theater productions. Their plays were presented in the Kenwood Elementary School in Bend, and rehearsals were held in an abandoned (and unheated!) church building. 30 years later, thanks to a great deal of ongoing community support, we’re still here, and looking forward to another 30 years.
CTC exists because dedicated volunteers produce quality live theater and because the community supports us. Each of our six stage productions require nearly 3,000 volunteer hours to produce, with musicals requiring over twice that amount. Currently, we offer 6 main stage productions per season in a 131-seat venue. Most productions are performed 13 times with the musical productions running for 18 shows.
Even with all of these volunteer hours, the cost of keeping the theater up and running exceeds our ticket revenues. We are dependent on generous individual and corporate donors to balance the budget and keep us in the black. This year, our individual memberships are a huge success, up by over 50 percent, but our corporate sponsorships are suffering along with the economy. As a consequence, we found ourselves looking at a potential $30,000 deficit for our fiscal year ending in June 2009. Our recent mail solicitation for funds has been a great success, and we’ve managed to add a couple of corporate sponsors as well. We aren’t out of the woods yet, but we’re making progress, and we’re looking forward to continuing our 2008/2009 season.
Thanks again to our generous membership and to the support of forward thinking foundations, CTC purchased the theater building on Greenwood Avenue back in 1990. So no matter what happens to our cash flow in this troubled economy, CTC in not going anywhere! We may shuffle our schedule around a bit, and add new faces and skills to our dedicated board in order to boost marketing and fund raising, but CTC will continue to provide quality community theater for years to come.
In these times, when the trend is to buy local, if you haven’t been to the theater recently, you, your family, your friends, and perhaps your client's or customers are in for the thrill of re-discovering live theater. CTC stands with the best Central Oregon has to offer.
Call the box office at 389-0803 and order tickets for Eugene Stickland's "Some Assembly Required", running now through December 21 and Arthur Miller’s “All My Sons”, which runs from January 30 through February 15.
     See you at the theater!

Healing Reins Needs your help!

Healing Reins has an immediate window of opportunity to add on to its existing space and needs your help!
About a year ago, Steele Associates Architects, LLC donated their considerable time and expertise to draw up a set of plans for adding much needed space to the barn interior. Plans include a second story office/meeting space, expanded program tack room, “viewing deck” and dedicated volunteers.
All of the project materials will be donated by Faith Run Farms and Dick Lowell of WestBrook Homes has graciously offered to donate his time to act as the General Contractor. He is looking for “a few good men” (and women!) to assist with the addition which will be framed and closed in THIS CHRISTMAS BREAK. Lowell and HRTRC are seeking the following: licensed electricians, licensed plumbers, framers, finish carpenters, drywall installers, painters, demolition workers, volunteer works, and any donated paint, outlets, switches, and related construction materials (per plans).
Please let Penny know if you are willing and able to assist with this effort or if you can refer us to another person or group who might be interested in working with us. You can contact Penny at 382-9410 or at pennyc@healingreins.org.

KIDDOZ Childcare Sponsorship a Success

On the eve of Dec. 4, youngsters belonging to Chamber Members were cared for, played with and entertained at Kiddoz Inc. Indoor Play Center. Why? So their parents could enjoy a fabulous gathering at this year’s Chamber Holiday Party, of course!
At no cost to families, and only accepting donations for the Boys & Girls Club of Bend, Kiddoz Inc. provided supervision by skilled staff, a yummy pizza dinner, drinks, play time, and snacks. Owner Renelle Taylor had this to say: “This evening was a winner all the way around! Families donated a total of $50 to the Boys & Girls Club, kids got an evening of fun and play, and parents had opportunities aplenty socializing, celebrating, and networking at the Chamber Holiday Party. Kiddoz is honored and thankful for this opportunity, and looks forward to future sponsorships!”
Now, THIS is what being a member of the Bend Chamber is all about – support, involvement, networking, and giving back to our community!
For more information about Kiddoz Inc., visit www.kiddozplaycenter.com.
