COCC’s Industry Month Workshop: Leading from Possibility

Ask anyone who attended the Disney Institute in October 2007 and they will remember Guy Smith, one of the presenters, as a passionate and engaging speaker with practical information you could take back to use right away. COCC is bringing Guy Smith back to Central Oregon on October 9 to present “Leading from Possibility.”
According to Guy, good leaders approach their day by identifying problems and solving them. Great leaders approach their day by thinking “possibility.” It may seem like a tiny difference, but the two approaches are miles apart when it comes to creating results. His three-hour workshop will give you the leadership tools necessary to break through your success paradigm to achieve greater results, not just incremental improvement.
Leading from Possibility will be held at Cascade Healthcare Community-Bend (St. Charles) on October 9, 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. with buffet breakfast beginning at 7:30 a.m.
Tickets are $129 per person; an early registration price of $99 if offered for those who purchase tickets by September 15.
For more information, call COCC at 383-7270 or go to http://noncredit.cocc.edu/IW.

The ultimate goal of SHARP is to encourage employers to become self-sufficient in managing workplace safety and health issues. Currently, 137 employers in Oregon participate in SHARP, including 73 employment locations that have graduated from the program.
The Deschutes County Road Department manages 830 miles of county roads and 66 bridges. Workers are charged with routine road and bridge maintenance; vegetation control; removal of roadside hazards; installing, repairing, and replacing signs, pavement markings, and striping; emergency response to natural disasters; and winter snow removal. Employing 64 full-time workers, the county road department began working toward SHARP about two years ago.

Tools for Schools

The seventh annual Tools for Schools BBQ is moving downtown this year. This is fun opportunity to eat some good food and help out local students in need. All cash and school supplies donated during the event will go directly to Bend-La Pine Schools’ students, via the Family Access Network (FAN).

One of the many great things about the FAN program is, through donations, they can help ensure every child has the things they need to get off to a great school year. It's tough on students to be the only one without a backpack or binder - this program provides them with that and more.
The free BBQ will be taking place on the lawn at the Bend-La Pine School Education Center (across from the library in Bend) on August 22 from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m.
